365 Days of Doing Better: 2021 Sustainability Recap

365 Days of Doing Better: 2021 Sustainability Recap

As part of our mission to lead the fashion industry into a more sustainable future, Princess Polly smashed some serious goals in 2021 (with your help ofc). We’ve been waiting to share all the juicy deets with you and it’s time we finally can! In no particular order, here is our official 2021 recap:

Audited 100% of our Factories

Cool, but what does that really mean?

An audit is basically a super in-depth inspection of our factory operations and policies to make sure our Code of Conduct is being upheld. This ethical audit ensures that all of our factories are providing safe, fair & respectful working experiences to all Princess Polly factory employees. Today, 100% of our factories have valid ethical audits.

We Made 20% of Our Products More Sustainable

Creating clothes and developing practices that are more environmentally conscious isn’t something to throw a party over, it’s necessary and it’s what every fashion retailer should be actively doing right now. Thanks to you purchasing our lower-impact ‘fits, the Princess Polly Sustainable Range is growing super fast. With more fresh styles to come, we promise you’re not missing out on any of the latest trends when you shop sustainably.

Calculated our Carbon Footprint & Set Reduction Targets

Last year, we were busy crunching numbers after we took a hard look at our creation, transport and delivery processes. With this new data, we’ve been able to set reduction targets for our future and are committed to reducing our emissions by a minimum of 30% and becoming completely carbon neutral by 2030.

Released Our First Modern Slavery Statement

Modern slavery still exists in our world today and as a global retailer, it is our job to ensure that everyone that works with Princess Polly is safe from exploitation. In June 2021, we were proud to release our first Modern Slavery Statement. This will be something that we do each year as we continue to assess and improve our practices, and protect those that work with us.

Donated $500,000+ to Worthy Causes

Giving to organizations that support equality, the environment and the mind & body ensures that our Princess Polly initiatives are reaching those who need it most. We donated and spent time volunteering for charities such as Butterfly Foundation, The Loveland Foundation, Fare Share, My Friend’s Place and Stepping Stone House, to name a few.

Plus our donation feature at checkout allows YOU to donate directly to these causes yourself. You fundraised $60,000 for our partners Butterfly Foundation and the Loveland Foundation, (good karma coming your way!)

Switched to 100% Recycled Content Packaging

After reviewing your feedback, we decided to switch from compostable bags to 100% recycled content bags! Not only is this alternative created from recycled content, but you can easily dispose of these bags at your local supermarket in your nearest soft plastics bin. Check out this blog post for more info.

Launched Princess Polly Curve

Creating clothes that everyone can feel confident in is a must, which is why our size options now range from a US 0 to a US 20. Diversity, inclusion and representation in our styles and marketing is something we are continuously reflecting and improving on. Although we’ve launched our Curve Range and extended our sizing, we are always looking for more ways to make Princess Polly a safe space for all. Keep updated on our socials!

Installed Solar Panels Into Our AU HQ

After our team looked at all the different ways we could quickly and effectively reduce our environmental footprint, installing solar panels at our AU office was a no-brainer. We’re officially runnin’ off the sun.

Joined the United Nations Global Compact

To help us centralize the most important issues facing our world today, the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) has created 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Princess Polly joined the UNGC to ensure that our values, goals and initiatives are on the right path and that they can (and have) made a difference. We are focusing on 9 of the 17 SDGs that we can best contribute to, and are aligning our practices & initiatives to make sure every year looks more sustainable, inclusive and diverse than the year before.

That’s a wrap! Keep up to date on all our initiatives over at Princess Polly Earth Club
